I still haven’t really gotten into the Final Fantasy 14 game since I got it last week. Been busy with work and these intros are just so fun to watch. Depending on which starting city you choose for yourself, you get a different intro movie. They’re all so epically cool that I keep remaking my characters and watching them over and over. Since the vast, vast majority of my writers and friends can’t even run this game I thought I would do everyone a solid and make a HD recording of the video. Starting with Gridania, I’ll be posting the intros for all three starting cities! Now you finally see what all the great fuss is about. Enjoy!
Quick Recap: After choosing your character, you find yourself walking through the woods surrounding Gridania. A mysterious voice suddenly speaks to you or at you. Before you have time to ponder what was hear, a streak of fire zipping across the skyline catches your attention and you watch in shock as it crash lands in the distance. Immediately you speed towards the landing site to find two people, Papalymo and Yda, lying in an open area. After nudging them awake, they argue over where they are but the debate is cut short by a pack of attacking wolves. You’re urged to defend yourself but your character is too weak, instead relying on the beastly Yda to take them out. Before Yda can finish them off, a Treant interrupts the fight and starts eating your attackers and looking at you as the next meal. Quickly you and your new found friends try to escape. As the Treant nearly catches up to you, time and space stands still as the most adorable muggles in existence floats by playing their musical tune which seemingly calms the angry Treant. These muggles lead the Treant away while extras from the Robin Hood movie who looked like they just came from a masquerade ball gives you a cryptic introduction and leads you safely to Gridania. The rest of the dialog can be found below.
And here’s the script from the intro:
Yda: …
Yda: *groan*
Yda: *groan*
Papalymo: *moan*
Swethyna: Your life is forfeit should you wander long about the deep wood.
Swethyna: I daresay you still have much to learn before you call yourself an adventurer for true. Count yourself lucky the Wood Wailers came when we did.
Cecilia: You were saved by moogles in the forest?
Cecilia: To even see a moogle in one’s lifetime is rare enough, but to be saved by a pack of them? Not many can make such a boast.
Lonsygg: Well met and well come, friend, to Gridania. No doubt your journey was an eventful one. The elementals were quite agitated, from what I’ve heard.
Lonsygg: Have you got your wits about you? You still look to be a bit rattled. I could see you to the Adventurers’ Guild, if it please you─place by the name of Carline Canopy.
Lonsygg: Most all adventurers put in there first.
Miounne: So you’re the adventurer I’ve been hearing so much about. Name’s Miounne, or Mother Miounne as most call me.
Miounne: And this Carline Canopy is my place. We got meat and mead, if you fancy it. And we aim to help you adventurer types here in Gridania where we can.
Miounne: No doubt you’ve heard of how peaceful it is here in Gridania, protected as we are on all sides by the Twelveswood.
Miounne: Just don’t come crying to this Mother should you fail to live up to your expectations.
Miounne: Gridania is like any other living thing. She keeps her health by expelling foulness from within. And I mean no disrespect, lad, but you are part of the foulness―an outsider.
Miounne: Surely you must’ve realized as much in the forest, no? They say the wood’s fury was on you.
Miounne: A moving tree? You mean to tell me you escaped a treant?
Miounne: Ah, so the moogles came along and saved your hide, did they? Aye, you can always count on something extraordinary to happen when they show up.
Miounne: By the gods, next thing I know, you’ll be telling me you met those summoned by the wood.
Yda: And summoned by the wood, we were.
Papalymo: At least that’s what your Brother ESumi tells us.
Miounne: You? But you’re so… Are you sure it was Brother ESumiYan who said this?
Papalymo: In so many words. To be honest, I haven’t the slightest notion whether we are these “forest-beckoned” souls Brother ESumi spoke of or not.
Miounne: Well you are welcome here, in either case. Have you come to sup? There’s good food and drink to be had, and conversation besides.
Papalymo: No, thank you, as to the food and drink. But conversation interests me a great deal. We are here concerning the airship which fell in the forest. We heard that we might find some salvagers of the wreckage here.
Miounne: That’s right, some adventurers were enlisted to go and recover what they could. Give Mother a moment and I’ll go find out what I can.
Yda: We never should have jumped from that ship. It seems to me we would have ended up in Gridania either way.
Papalymo: Aye, a folly, that. You have the right of it, I should think.
Yda: For being the smart one, you sure can be stupid at times.
Miounne: The retrieved wreckage has all been taken to Atelier FenYll. It is still being looked into, of course, but taking a good deal longer than anticipated. Seems the remains were scattered all over the forest.
Yda: Scattered…
Papalymo: It occurs to me that perhaps jumping ship may have been the wise move after all.
Swethyna: Ah, here you are.
Swethyna: I have come to insist that you are properly cleansed before you would enter the forest again.
Swethyna: Brother ESumi will perform rites to rid you of the greenwrath. Though perhaps through no fault of your own, the Hedge was brought down, and the elementals were angered.
Swethyna: The sins you committed within the forest have sullied you. Neglect to cleanse yourself, and the greenwrath will find you again. This is known.
Swethyna: Come, let us go.
